Sensation Salad

Sensation Salad

There is a reason why this is called “Sensation Salad”. Simply put, it’s sensational!! My sister lives in Louisiana and brought this recipe to me several years ago from Kay, one of her two amazing mother in-laws!! It is my favorite salad in the world and very easy to make. Even if you don’t like blue cheese, give it a try….seriously! There are many of my friends who don’t like blue cheese but love this salad. Thanks, Tara and Kay for bringing this salad into my world.

Level of Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Prep Time – 15 minutes. Chill time – 1 hr.

3/4 c. olive Oil
3/4 c. vegetable Oil
10 oz. crumbled blue cheese
10 oz. shredded parmesan cheese
Juice of 6-8 lemons
1 head of garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
1 head of iceberg lettuce
Fresh spinach (or romaine)
1 pint of cherry tomatoes
Special Equipment and Other Items Needed:

Small wire whisk

Preparation of Sensation Salad:

For the dressing:

Whisk all ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Cover and let chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.

For the salad:

Ideally, the salad will be equal parts iceberg and spinach. However, if you have people who don’t like spinach, just substitute the romaine. On the flip side, it’s a great way to disguise the spinach so kids will eat it!! Add enough dressing to coat the lettuce (about 1/4 cup) and mix well. Add the cherry tomatoes and serve!

You can certainly adjust the amount of lemon and garlic you add based on personal preference. The same goes for the cheese for that matter!! That’s another reason I love this can easily change it up to suit your own taste!

Meal Ideas:

Top the salad with a nice piece of grilled or blackened chicken for a complete meal!

I can testify that I used to despise blue cheese. Denise made me this salad years ago and I had no idea there was blue cheese in it. After devouring the salad, I asked about it and my chin nearly hit the floor when Denise told me the surprise! That was the beginning of me tolerating blue cheese in other settings as well. – Melissa
