What do you call these kitchen gadgets?

There is a marketing term called a ‘generic trademark’ which essentially is the effect of a brand or company name becoming so synonymous with a particular product that the product itself is referred to by the brand or company.

Some of the brands which best represent a generic trademark are brands like Kleenex and Xerox. We all use these synonymously with their product of facial tissue and copy machine.

If you are from the South, then you probably also do this with Coke. You’ll go to a restaurant and they’ll ask you if you’d like a Coke and you say, “Yes, please, may I have a diet Coke?”

Well, kitchen gadgets are the same way, at least they are for Denise. She constantly refers to her Cuisinart and her Kitchen Aid in her posts. Then, I have to come behind and change them to food processor and stand mixer.

Ok…for the record, when I asked my sister what she thought of when someone asked if she had a Cuisinart, her response was, “Food Processor. Absolutely!” I then asked the same thing about a Kitchen Aid. Her response was, “Stand Mixer. 100%. No other option!” So guess what, it’s not just me…and don’t going saying it’s because we are in the same family.  -Denise

We were chatting about this over cocktails at the pool and got so tickled, we thought we just had to share
