As Denise said in her Thanksgiving Menu post the other day, we have very different Thanksgiving meals. Mine is just immediate family and is usually held at my in-laws house. My mother-in-law and I plan the menu each year and divide and conquer. This includes my father-in-law roasting the turkey, Mark making the cranberry (usually) and the kids helping with the desserts.
Our Thanksgiving meal is usually held on Friday to accommodate our blended family and we have gone to the Georgia-Georgia Tech game every year (except 2 due to horrendous weather) on Saturday. It’s funny how you quickly become a creature of habit. This is just what we do.
The meal is low-stress for a big holiday get together even if we are worrying about the timing using only one oven. This group is just a ‘go with the flow’ kind of group. So laid back that even when the Pyrex dish holding my broccoli casserole last year exploded in the oven sending broccoli, cheez-its and glass flying, we just turned off the oven and said, “Oh well, we’ll get to that later. Let’s eat!”
Here is our Thanksgiving Menu:
Turkey
Cornbread and Biscuit Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Casserole
Gravy
Big Mama’s Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Broccoli Casserole
Asparagus and Peas
Desserts:
Memaw’s Pound Cake
Mark’s Cake
Chocolate Pie
Apple Pie

any chance we can get the recipe for “BIG MAMA’S ROLLS”? I fail every year at making homemade yeast rolls. HELP!
I’ll have to ask my Mother-in-law. These are not yeast rolls though but they are really good. Not sure how I’d describe them – kind of a cross between a biscuit and a muffin that falls apart and is all crumbly and buttery delicious. MMMMM – (Melissa)
