Easter Dinner 2013 – Update and Shopping List

I had a few minutes today between my 1,001 projects going on and decided I ought to make my shopping list for the Easter Dinner (just 2 days away). Our guest list has been updated to 11 so I’ll adjust quantities accordingly. If you missed the menu post, you can find it here. I decided to do a few things different than my norm so I researched a ton of good recipes and put this menu together.

Shopping List for Easter Dinner


Assortment of cheeses and either a pate or a selection of meats – I’ll decide on this when I go to Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck).

Salad for Easter:

Our salad will be deviled eggs so I’ll need:
1 dozen eggs
Package of bacon (I only need 4 strips but I’ll cook it all, it will be consumed!)
Some mixed greens/arugula for the base

Main Course for Easter

BBQ Rotisserie Ham
12lb Ham, whole, bone-in, not spiral sliced
Mustard based BBQ sauce

Scalloped Potatoes
5lb bag Yukon Gold Potatoes from Costco
2 blocks of Gruyère from Costco
1 pint heavy cream

Roasted Tomatoes
4 large beefsteak tomatoes
Panko bread crumbs (usually a pantry item but I’m out)
Fresh Basil (usually a garden item but it’s been too cold)

I still have not decided this. I’ll look for something that looks the freshest when I’m at the store


Drunken Pears with zabaglione custard
7 Bosc Pears
1 bottle red wine
1 orange for peel
1 dz eggs
1/2 cup sweet white wine ( I have a couple of bottles of Riesling I was ‘gifted’, perhaps a good use for them!!)

I may also add a more kid-friendly dessert for the little ones, but with my schedule, that may need to be store bought.

Pantry Ingredients:

BBQ Spice Rub (I’ll use chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper)
Whole Nutmeg (use a microplane to grate as needed)
1/2 cup Hellman’s mayonnaise
1 T honey mustard (I’ll make that with mustard and honey)
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper
2 T shredded sharp cheddar (I always have a huge block of Cabot’s 3 yr old extra sharp)
Parsley (in the garden!)
Thyme (in the garden!)
Extra virgin olive oil
2-3 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup sugar
